IPANEMA is a joint unit of the CNRS, the Ministry of Culture, the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and the National Museum of Natural History (UAR 3461). IPANEMA is located on the Synchrotron SOLEIL site within the University of Paris-Saclay.

It is a laboratory developing advanced methods for characterizing materials from archaeology, paleoenvironments, paleontology, and cultural heritage, and supporting synchrotron research with external users hosted on the platform. To this end, IPANEMA develops and provides a range of techniques for studying artifacts and samples, preparing samples, and statistically analyzing the collected data sets.

IPANEMA’s infrastructure was built by the Île-de-France region and its initial equipment is financed by the French state within the framework of the CPER 2007-2013 and the PATRIMEX Equipex.
