Irfu’s Astrophysics Department, UMR AIM, is one of the leading space laboratories in France, Europe and the rest of the world, promoting research, teaching and public understanding of astronomy.
AIM has a wide range of research themes developed within thematic teams. All teams are strongly involved in national and international collaborations. They include cosmology and galaxy evolution, star formation and interstellar medium, dynamics of stars, exoplanets and the environment, high energy cosmic events, cosmology and statistics, astrophysical plasma modelling.
The AIM instrumentation team oversees the development of cutting-edge spectro-imaging instruments for space missions. Their activities encompass the overall management of instruments, the design and development of systems or subsystems (notably focal planes and their electronics), as well as the assembly, integration, verification, and testing of the developed systems. The team also conducts R&D research, particularly on new detectors.
